The staff and children have had so much fun during the last few weeks of the Autumn Term. They decorated the pre-school and put the Christmas tree up. They made Christmas playdough, an Advent wreath for our prayer table and made lots of lovely Christmas crafts. The children learned new songs and rhymes and a poem about a snowman. We held a Christmas party and played party games such as musical bumps and musical chairs. We held 'Stay and Play' sessions. The children, staff and parents enjoyed these sessions, and we are looking forward to doing more of these in the Spring Term.

The children have been gaining control of their bodies by taking part in activities such as action songs, assault courses, running, climbing and using resources to develop hand-eye co-ordination such as threading, drawing and ball games. The children had lots of fun in the school grounds, pre-school playground and school hall!

The children have been using a range of technology in pre-school. They have used the microphone to record themselves singing, used the walkie talkies to talk to each other, played games on the interactive board, danced to music whilst popping bubbles from the bubble machine and used tills, telephones etc. Their favourite resource this term has been the blackout tent and the torches, projector, colour changing cube and other such resources.

The children had lots of fun taking part in activities leading up to Bonfire Night. They made their own firework pictures using paint, crayons, chalks etc. They listened to stories about bonfires and took part in discussions around fire safety. Some of the children went to the school fireworks night and enjoyed sharing their experiences with their friends.

In English, Year 1 have been writing Christmas Cards. The children we able to see the purpose of their writing and why it is important to practice this skill. We went on a lovely, local walk to the post box to send these home.

The children in Year 2 explored different types of mechanisms, thinking about how the object moved and which part formed the mechanism. The children spent time making a lever, pop up and a slider. They then chose which one they wanted to include in their design. They had great fun making their christmas cards!

To celebrate the end of our Tudor learning, we held a banquet. We enjoyed feasting on all of the dishes we had prepared. This included, cheese and onion tarts, vegetable pottage, Cornish pasties, plum tart and gingered bread. We washed it all down with a glass of grape juice! A feast fit for Kings and Queens!

In DT this half term, Year 5 have been learning about seasonality and understanding if ingredients have been grown, reared, caught or processed. We looked at a menu from 2025 and compared it to a Tudor menu! We categorised the ingredients according to where they came from and considered which ingredients were seasonal. When choosing our Tudor dishes, we ensured the ingredients were seasonal, and we made some changes/additions to the original recipes.

Year 5 had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Mary Rose Museum, where we were able to see the largest collection of Tudor artefacts in the world! The children took part in two workshops; one involved carrying out a science experiment to test the placement of different weights in a container, to see how it affected its ability to float. In the other workshop, we had the opportunity to handle replica artefacts and dress up as different people onboard the Mary Rose. We had such a fun day!

In Science, we have been learning about the human senses. This lesson focused on taste and using our taste buds to describe foods. We ate foods from the main taste categories: bitter, sweet, salty and sour. The pictures show some of our reactions!

We have been loving Autumn! We have made Conker soap and we have been exploring Pumpkin smashing and strengthening our fingers by hammering into the pumpkin. We have also enjoyed printing with Autumn vegetables into the paint to create pictures. Happy half term everyone!

In our final session with the Inspiration Federation, Year 5 used litter to decorate some 3D figures of creatures that are at risk of harm due to littering. The children worked collaboratively to decorate the figures. The project is due to be displayed in Fareham library. We look forward to visiting this display and raising awareness of how litter is harming the environment.

Using the litter that we collected on our litter pick, Year 5 created a piece of artwork. They were provided with a stencil of an animal, to create an image of it. The children then used the litter to create a collage effect.

Year 5 have been taking part in an Environment Science and Art project, led by the Inspiration Federation. The children have learnt about the negative impact of litter upon local wildlife and the environment and also the importance of recycling. After researching the negative impact and making awareness posters, the children visited a local green space and collected litter. After our litter pick we recorded it on a community litter picking website.

This week, we have thrown ourselves into all things autumnal and have been listening to lots of different autumn themed stories. One of these stories has been Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. This inspired us to make our own autumn soup. Thank you for sending in a vegetable so we could do this. We really enjoyed preparing and tasting the yummy soup. We learnt about the importance of washing our hands before preparing food and how to stay safe using a range of kitchen tools.

Reception class joined in with the whole school project, Take One Picture. This involved looking at a piece of art from the National Gallery. As it was an Italian Painting, we were able to use our understanding of the world to learn about the culture in Italy, exploring Food, buildings and music.
